The Florentine lands They are decorative technique for walls with a great visual effect. They are composed of special resins which, thanks to them, give them the characteristic finish they have when they spread on the surface of the wall.

Purple Florentine earth applied on the wall

Florentine countries or old Florentine countries can be selected in different colors, choosing one or another color, which we can buy in the same store. For example, the ones we see here are purple because we chose the shade of purple. Bursts that can be seen in white are caused by special resins they carry and when broken with a special plastic spatula, they appear on the drawing of that shape and on the bottom of the wall, which is mostly painted white.

How to apply Florentine land on the wall

The first step. Prepare the wall:

We cover all cracks, cracks or damage on the wall with putty and spatulas. After the putty dries, sand it with medium-density sandpaper. Once the wall is left without defects, we clean it from dust with a brush or cloth until it becomes clean for applying the necessary primer for giving Florentine lands.

The second step. Primer for wall:

We paint the wall with matt white plastic paint until it becomes completely white, even if several coats are needed, respecting the drying time between coats. Generally, two coats of plastic paint are sufficient.

For Florentine countries, we can also use basic quartz or a special primer. But it is more expensive, and with a good white plastic paint we achieve the same effect: that the earth «slides» when we apply it.

After the paint dries, for about 12 hours, we apply a primer from the Florentine countries. Any of these products are sold in paint stores. Before buying, let the seller advise us.

The third step. Application of Florentine countries:

Now that we have a smooth, white wall and with a previous primer, we prepare the Florentine soils, mixing the paint or toner with the resins and mixing until all the white paste becomes the color we chose for the paint.

Then, with a special brush for the Florentine countries, we dip the top into the already prepared paste and apply it on the wall.

Note: Before applying to the wall, train your hand on defective cardboard or surface.Palette or brush for Florentine countries

The method of application is by giving bursts in all directions. Place the tip of the brush on the wall and make some sort of large “X” to spread the product in various directions.

We will do this until the whole wall is finished without being clear to us. It is convenient to separate from the wall from time to time to look at it perspectively and see if we like the drawing.

Plastic spatula for applying or crushing Florentine soilAfter the resin is applied to the wall and about 10 minutes after application, it is time to crush the resin with a plastic spatula to achieve the final effect.

The way the blade passes is the same as brushing, crushing and spreading the resin in various directions making bursts.

It is important to control the time since we applied the soil until we start crushing and spreading the resin, because when we pass the trowel, the paint, paint or toner must be dry already on the wall so as not to remove it with a trowel or resin. If we pass the spatula too early, we will take both paint and resin, leaving it clean on the wall, and if we use the spatula too late, the resin will be dry and we will not be able to achieve the effect well.

If the wall to be painted is very large and we are not going to do it all, we have to be very careful where we leave the cut. If we leave a cut in the middle of the wall, when we paint the other half of the wall, the trace will remain. So without being noticed we can do two things.

1. We make the whole wall and leave the cut in the corner or corner.

2. If we have to leave a cut in the middle of the wall, when we are halfway there, we will blur them. So when we start with the second half, the cut will not be noticeable.

How to remove Florentine land from the wall Elimination of Florentine land.

If for any reason we are tired of the Florentine lands and want to remove them, we must repaint them. To do this, we will first grind all surfaces until we have removed all roughness, including corners and / or corners. Once it becomes smooth, we can repaint it, thus covering the effect of the Florentine countries.
